SEMPRE

Crime and suspense novel isn’t my thing. But, for every rule there is always an exemption. Sempre or forever in Italian is a debut novel by a new author J.M.Darhower. There’s nothing that I can compare with for this work of hers as this is her first published book but all I can hope for is for her to write more.

Sempre

As much as I believed the story ended well, I can’t deny the fact that I was heartbroken  several times reading through it. It revolves around the life of the members of the MAFIA. I may have a hard time believing if these totally exist, but… what the heck- the book was definitely good. The love story between Haven and Carmine is so raw, naive and beautifully promising. Haven as a character is so delicate yet so brave. She is strong and innocent but equally and impressively smart in her own little ways despite the rough life that she had gone through. Carmine on the other hand is like someone that would fit the saying that goes "don’t judge the book by it’s cover" or perhaps by the words that comes out of his mouth with regards to the case of Carmine’s constant swearing, leaving his dialogues more colorful Deep within he is just a typically macho who surrenders to head-over-heels circumstances of true love.

I admire how J.M.Darhower’s style of pulling up descriptions of the heavy action scenes. Violence in the story are cleverly plotted making readers imagine of how believably morbid and brutal that scenarios are. I have to stop reading for a minute or two to be able to catch my breath. I can literally imagine to scene as if I am staring at a movie screen in 3D. I love the Italian quotes that were scattered everywhere at the book. I may not understand those without the translation but it emphasizes the love story even more.

Finally, this book doesn’t deserve the five-star rating for me because i simply love it but of course for the fact that the lessons that comes with it completes the package.

Family is family- even if you have to reach the point when you have to choose. Concentrate on what matters and pick the lesser evil. Too damn easy to say but too hard to even just imagine doing it.

Sacrifice- when there is nothing left good enough as choices, it is the only way out to continue living.

Loyalty- can be a bad thing, specially for the wrong reasons.

Pain- without it, nothing is gained.

Freedom-cherished and valued for some, abused and taken for granted by others.

HOPE-is forever..Sempre

LOVE-it conquers all.

Poem for Lola Natz

This poem is written by Ate Totit, Mama Natz’ eldest granddaughter. This was read to the public by my cousin Malou during the funeral mass that was co-celebrated by two bishops and three priest.

Poem for Lola Natz
I thank the Lord for the chance
of saying I love you for the last time
I heard your reassuring voice
That everything will be fine.
As I learn of your passing, Lola Natz who is so dear,
I grieve for your loss.
I cried
And I sob. It is so much to endure…
Eventually, I make peace of myself
that you are truly gone and will never return.
I know you are happy now
with the Lord in his arms.
for cooking suman every occasions……thank you.
for teaching us bird dance….. thank you.

Happy Birthday from miles away

From the bottom of my heart, I greet you  a very very Happy Birthday WCW, my loving Husband Dear. The soul mate of my lifetime, my partner, my best friend, Best Daddy to my children and my very own hot, sexy object of my desires who never fails to satisfy me in every way. The person who treat me like a baby and a queen. The person whom irritates me in such way that makes me wanting for more of him. Who never gets tired teasing me and playing with me so much, yet, I can never have enough of. The person who made me realize that I won’t be myself without him, and himself without me. The reason who defies all the saying that goes “marriage sucks” because it certainly feels pretty damn good being married to you. The person who showered me with endless love. The person  with whom I can never live without.

Happy Birthday my KING!!!

We may not be able to celebrate this wonderful day with a dinner together with the little brat and bratette, but you know very well I am always celebrating you and all of yours. It’s getting close to when we can kiss once more, though those days will never be enough because you know very well that I want more than a lifetime to spend with you. It is getting close and I promise you will unwrap the birthday gift you always wanted. Me.

I saw this pictures on Facebook. Shared by one of my mentors who beams of an example that Long Distance Relationship will never be hindrance when two people love each other.

To Ma’am Doreen Juab-Jayectin, Thank You for sharing the thought!

7th

Today is her 7th birthday!

I was called by the teacher from school yesterday to come pick her up as she was having fever. The weather isn’t very friendly for the past few days so I thought she was just reacting to it. Today, she turned 7 years old and both of us stayed in bed as I have to be with her. She asked for a cake and I can’t even leave the house to get one. She wants ice cream and she doesn’t even want me going anywhere except where she is at. Yes, she is definitely not feeling well. When my mom came home from school, I sent her to get the goodies she requested and we had a mini celebration.

Happy Birthday sweetheart! I love you so so much! My baby is now becoming a young lady!

Fifty Shades Trilogy

The current trilogy that’s rocking not just booklovers world but showbiz at the same time. Well, even the simple naïve, innocent minds that came across these novels will also start to get ideas(kinky or not) and eventually awakens inner goddesses of femininity and equality…so I’ve thought!

Book I – Fifty Shades of Grey

Book II – Fifty Shades Darker

Book III – Fifty Shades Freed

written by : E L James

To spare you of its synopsis, since you have read it already by now, this trilogy is categorized as Erotic Romance Fiction, definitely FAO(for adults only) or SPG (strict parental guidance) depending on one’s point of view and understanding. This book has an underlying story of becoming a couple, a union of two different individuals- the gorgeous billionaire CEO Christian Grey and a virginal college student, Anastasia Steele began their lives discovering each other’s personalities and compromising on meeting halfway. The plot consist of BDSM and highly kinky, dirty, passionate sexual fantasies which scenarios are deliciously written in detail and can be found in almost every other page. Yeah… that much of details. I admit, my vocabulary  and orientation on the subject matter has widened and improved as it took me to do some research for it in a professional and informative approach. Whew!

I can’t deny the fact that these books gained my high ratings. True, it has plenty of sex scenes which really made the readers talking, and still keeps on talking more and that there are actually a whole lot of beautiful romance novels out there but the whole package of this trilogy deserved the high ratings unsurprisingly. The characters are lovable, the story is intense, thrilling and entertaining. Others may review it as abusive, torturous, frustratingly sexy and disturbingly hot and steamy. I find it informative, not that I am interested with BDSM, –No, Thank you,- but rather, it touches one aspect of female existence, respect and equality. Like the usual happy-ever-after stories, LOVE in the end still conquers all.

Fiction as it is, I believe the characters will leave an emotional soft spot in the hearts of the readers. Women of all ages will be dreaming of finding an extremely successful, gorgeous and powerfully rich Christian Grey out there who seems to be the perfect package for the position of a HUSBAND. Funny as it seems, everybody would like the guy who can do all this:

  1. Owns an enterprise. Can literally buy you a company in a blink of an eye or buy the company you are working for in order to protect you. <—- ahhh..knight in the shining armor?
  2. Owns a private jet and flies his own helicopter..not to mention, has his own boat somewhere which he sails himself! <—- he doesn’t have a train? or his own subway! huh!
  3. Owns a library and gives you expensive first edition books! <—– Nerd Girl 101 alert or should I say the pretty girls who read and is practically a bookworm couldn’t ask for more, isn’t she? Did you say he quotes lines from famous literatures? Uggh! now were talking! Who is this GUY???
  4. Owns an apartment in Escala which is one of the most expensive buildings in Seattle. Oh! please do add to the list of properties – a house in Aspen, and other apartments in Olympia and New York and counting…….
  5. A talented classical pianist, who speaks French fluently and can dance gracefully!
  6. Buys you  expensive jewelries, an entire wardrobe of designer clothes and shoes and give you a personal shopper because you hate shopping. <— Seriously? a woman who hates shopping- NOT ME!
  7. Delivers a whole bunch of the latest electronics: iPad, iPod, Mac lappy and blackberry.Take note: it is the LATEST, it’s not even released in the market yet! <—- I actually don’t care if it is the latest, I just love the fact that he send emails and text! It is cute and I like it.
  8. Makes it a point that you EAT all the time. <—- Of course…. whatever!
  9. Buys you an Audi for a car and gets you another one if you don’t seem to like a Saab? <—- What’s up with these pricey German vehicles?… and who doesn’t like a Saab? duh!?
  10. Doesn’t think you have to work for a living. <— what?? vacation leave all the time? I don’t think so…I still prefer the working-girl-me.
  11. Constantly tells you to spend money and get used to being rich! Refuses a prenup agreement specially when bank accounts are the agenda.
  12. Never has a bad breath, awfully good looking with perfect eyes, kissable sexy lips, body built like a God, never uses a bathroom?…. uhm.. he actually did on the entire three books at least! he is just not fond of showering….say, specially after the did! tsk, tsk…
  13. Never fails to tell you how beautiful, admirable, sexy and appealing and unconsciously looking perfect. He is totally  crazy and addicted with you during every moment of every day, refuses to take his eyes off of you, does anything not be apart from you. Wants to have kinky, passionate or rough, uninhibited steamingly wild hot sex with you at all times (sometimes right after you’ve just been intimate, BDSM style or not) regardless of when, where, or how.

I guess that is the best I can describe who Christian Grey is.

Regardless of who we are, of what our lifestyle can tell us, of what our intimate sexual preference is, we all deserve a “Christian Grey” in our lives… or Anastacia Steele for that matter.

If one asked me if this trilogy is recommendable, then the answer is YES, as I already did recommend it to my friends. I bet readers will be talking about Fifty Shades for a long time –women specially and despite the uniquely elaborated description of intimacy EL James manage to cause a reader to turn pages continuously. After all, the only opinion that matters in the end… is yours.

Laters, Baby…

Women’s Day

IT’S OUR DAY

By the time the Lord made woman,
He was into his Sixth day of working overtime.
An Angel appeared and said, "Why are you spending so much time on this one?"
And the Lord answered and said, "Have you seen the spec sheet on her? She has to be completely washable, but not plastic, have 200 movable
parts, all replaceable, run on black coffee and leftovers, have a lap that can hold two children at one time and that disappears when she stands up,
have a kiss that can cure anything from a scraped knee to a broken heart, and have six pairs of hands."
The Angel was astounded at the requirements for this one.
"Six pairs of hands!
No Way!" said the Angel.
The Lord replied, "Oh, it’s not the hands that are the problem.
It’s the three pairs of eyes that mothers must have!
And that’s just on the standard model?"
The Angel asked about the three pairs of eyes.
The Lord nodded. "Yep, one pair of eyes are to see through the closed door as she asks her children what they are doing even though she already
knows. Another pair in the back of her head are to see what she needs to know even though no one thinks she can. And the third pair are here in the front of her head. They are for looking at an errant child and saying that she understands and loves him or her without even saying a single word."
The Angel tried to stop the Lord. "This is too much work for one day, wait until tomorrow to finish."
"But I can’t!" The Lord protested, "I am so close to finishing this creation that is so close to my own heart. She already heals herself when she is
sick AND can feed a family on a pound of hamburger and can get a nine year old tost and in the shower."
The Angel moved closer and touched the woman, "But you have made her so soft, Lord." "She is soft," The Lord agreed, "but I have also made her
tough. You have no idea what she can endure or accomplish."
"Will she be able to think?" asked the Angel.
The Lord replied, "Not only will she be able to think, she will be able to reason and negotiate."
The Angel then noticed something and reached out and touched the woman’s cheek. "Oops, it looks like you have a leak with this model. I told you that you were trying to put too much into this one."
"That’s not a leak," The Lord objected, "That’s a tear!"
"What’s the tear for?" the Angel asked.
The Lord said, "The tear is her way of expressing her joy, her sorrow, her pain, her disappointment, her loneliness, her grief, and her pride."
The Angel was impressed. "You are a genius, Lord. You thought of everything, for women are truly amazing."
Women have strengths that amaze men.
They carry children, they carry hardships, they carry burdens but they hold happiness, love and joy.
They smile when they want to scream.
They sing when they want to cry.
They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous.
They fight for what they believe in.
They stand up for injustice.
They don’t take "no" for an answer when they believe there is a better solution.
They go without new shoes so their children can have them.
They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.
They love unconditionally.
They cry when their children excel and cheer when their friends get awards.
Their hearts break when a friend dies.
They have sorrow at the loss of a family member, yet they are strong when they think there is no strength left.
They know that a hug and a kiss can heal a broken heart.
Women come in all sizes, in all colors and shapes.
They’ll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you to show how much they care about you. The heart of a woman is what makes the world spin!
Women do more than give birth.
They bring joy and hope.
They give compassion and ideals.
Women have a lot to say and a lot to give.

Water for Elephants

After so much procrastination, I finally decided to start reading Water for Elephants as my post-Valentine read. I am fully aware that the film has long been showed and since I knew it’s a book-tied movie I also passed the chance watching it.

Water for Elephants

a novel

by: SARA GRUEN

Fantastic storyteller and talented writer, Sara Gruen has managed to get her readers all aboard a bumpy, intense, shaky train ride full of emotions of colorful imagination. The plot is the story of Jacob Jankowski and his reminiscence of his life after he heard the sound of a door opening, followed with his name being called by his final exam proctor. He was supposedly graduating from Veterinary Medicine then, with a life fully planned ahead that vanished with the death of his parents and ended up with nothing that very morning of his final exams which leads himself tossed by fate hitching up on a rickety train that was a home to the Benzini Brothers Circus- Most Spectacular Show on earth or better described as train circus of America during 1930’s.

Carried away with the storytelling while I was half-way reading the book, I decided to set it down for a moment and searched the web for a safe download of a DVDRip copy of the movie. Sshhh!  I know it is illegal and a “NO to PIRACY” sign was brightly blinking over my peripheral vision but would I be blamed if I am so eager to do a comparison with the movie? I guess not, so moving on… I got lucky and was able to find one in no time.

Jacob played by Robert Pattinson(a.k.a Edward Cullen of Twilight) the circus world he remembers was both his salvation and a living hell. As a veterinary student just shy of a degree, he was put in charge of caring for the circus menagerie. For him, getting on the train was a perfect timing and he likes to believe that somehow his parents had sent it to his way. It was there that he met Marlena, (Reese Witherspoon) the blond and beautiful equestrian star of the show, who is married to August (Christopher Waltz), the charismatic, ambitious but twisted and harsh animal trainer / owner of the circus team. Working at the menagerie he met Rosie, an untrainable elephant and is believed to be the only hope for this third-rate traveling show that is struggling to play with life dealing with the early part of great depression.

Successful with downloading a copy of the movie, I didn’t waste a second to watch it after I finished the book. Since it is my post-Valentine read, I am still at the verge of feeling love in the air and with that, I am confused when I noticed the ambivalent reaction whilst watching the film. The story on the book was fairly fresh still and my expectations for the movie was high. There were actually some personal favorite parts of the book that were omitted  on the film and not to point out changes on some scenes. Nevertheless, it would be of complete dishonesty if I say I didn’t enjoy both presentation of Sara Gruen’s writing. As a matter of fact, simply enjoying it is an understatement for that matter.

I love the whole story, it not just covered the most powerful emotion among us ordinary humans, but it shows us how living creations share this same kind of feeling. To be with the animals is an attachment that is so common yet so rare. With this book, I somehow feel sorry for the beautiful animals that are among the menageries all over the world in any circus crowd while otherwise they will be into the wilds, in their natural habitat, where they can truly live free. Little did we know that behind  every outstanding circus performances and productions that we so joyfully cheered on, are animals that are suffering of pain from their masters due to training maltreatment. Over the years, we heard of thousands of stories of animals risking their lives to save their masters from all sorts of danger and sometimes death.

I feel good choosing Water for Elephants as my post Vday read and movie splurge. The book is a story that I might read again and the movie would belong to those that I would probably spend a day being a couch potato with, specially in month of February. I have a personal experience with an elephant which I wrote about in a previous post. Because of this, I fully understand and somehow connects  to the story when Jacob Jankowsky narrates and described Rosie. If only they are not so gigantic as they are, elephants could have been good pets.

LOVE to LOVE

Today is Valentines Day. The celebration of expressing the most powerful emotion and feeling of all–LOVE. Like I have said in my previous hearts day posts, I will be away from the love of my life for this year’s Vday but it will never make such difference as everyday for us is a Valentines day. From the very start of us being together, Husband dear writes emails to me everyday. I admit, I am the not-romantic-non-expressive-other-half of the heart in our relationship and reading his emails everyday always melts me inside and longs for our moments together and dreads the time being apart. Most times he is overseas and to see his name in my inbox and reading the lines of his emails is one of the highlights of my day to day routine. I will never ever get tired of getting an email from him.

If one truly loves and being loved, expressing this powerful emotion is constant and spontaneous and doesn’t occur on every 14th day of February only, regardless of distance or time difference. For today’s post, there is no greater idea than to show you all how everyday seems to be a Valentines Day for me.

These are the very few, among the many heartfelt lines on Husband dear’s everyday emails that I will never ever get tired of reading.

Red heart  Red heart  Red heart

I don’t pretend to know what love is for everyone, but I can tell you what it is for me; love is knowing all about someone and that is you and still wanting to be with you more than any other person, love is trusting you fully and to tell you everything , including the things you  or I might be ashamed of, love is feeling comfortable and safe with someone, but still getting my knees weak when I walk into a room and you smile at me

* * *

As I keep telling you I dream of our life together. Your lips to kiss and for my arms around you and loving you every day is what I want forever. To come home to you day after day knowing you’re there or me waiting on you while you are  working  long shifts at the blood bank. What ever our future brings I am always going to be with my love and that is you, my one and only Cel.

* * *

my life has been nothing but a love song since I have you in my life. From the very start when we were just friends and then a couple and now man and wife. I know there is God as he has given me the greatest gift a man can receive on this Earth.  I will protect our love with my life as I will never have a day that I won’t respect  and cherish our love and hold it true.People who write love songs is for people like me who want to express my love but I am not as good at words as the songwriters. All I know is that, I feel and breath the words of love for you and  when I hear those favored love songs, I will always feel my love for you deep with in to my very being.  So every breath I take and every move I make in this life will be to love and respect my beautiful wife, I pledge my heart and all my love to you my beloved beautiful book worm.

* * *

Out of everything I have done in my lifetime, having you as my wife is the greatest achievement of all. When we first met, I was already in love at first sight but never dreamed that my dream would come true and you would have me as much as I wanted you. The day I put that ring on your finger was the greatest day of my life. That is why I kept tearing up at the dinner after the wedding. I knew my life was changing for the better. I finally have the life full of love and the most beautiful wife in the world.

* * *

I was just existing and life was all just black and white and no happy colors in me. You have added an explosion of colors to my dull and boring life and now I can see the years ahead as nothing but a great love with my great family. To have a chance to have such a wonderful life with such a beautiful woman as you are is more than a man can ever ask for….

* * *

There has to be a God as he has blessed me with a beautiful Pinoy family. A family that loves me as much as I love you all. Life is like a book and its full of chapters being written with each and every year that goes by. And out of all the chapters in my book of life the best chapters started when I met you Cel and the book will end up being one of the greatest love story ever so written. It will have tests and difficulties  that life will throw at us but our love for one another will always prevail. We will always to be together forever as husband and wife and family. I Love You Mrs. Woods!

I LOVE YOU Mer!

JolliBEE in LOVE

After swimming lessons this morning, the kids begged for some Jollibee treat. Granting that being so early to be up and about for the day, I haven’t had anything cooked at the house so I gave in. My son ordered his favorite, Jollibee’s ChickenJoy Meal and Burger Steak  for my daughter. Upon paying our orders, the guy handed me a very cute heart-shaped note pad while telling me in his “fastfood crew-fast-manner-of-talking” that for every chicken meal order, comes free Jolly-Love Notes.

Calling in our orders to their kitchen crew he asked me if I liked it. I answered him that I find it cute and I did like it very much. How can I not?? It is free! What is not to like? Right?! Anyways, Stacking up the tray with our food he showed me that there were actually three different designs to choose from. He also offered that he would be glad to change it for me if I decided to choose another design. I opted for the one he handed me the first time and thanked him.

Everyone is soooo in the mood for the big Hearts day already! Little things such as this Jolly-Love Notes will easily get someone who are V-day likers and lovers  hyped up for the occasion. I may be celebrating  Valentines Day away from Husband dear this year but being securely and unconditionally in love with him is more than what gets me to celebrate Valentines day in everyday day of the year!

The Lover’s Dictionary

I saw this book flooding the “must-read” shelves of every bookstore I went into a-few months back. I completely ignore the urge to pick it up or read it’s back cover review. I thought the tittle alone describes it perhaps and as of that moment a highly romantic-chic-flick-type of book wasn’t a priority for purchase.

This review is actually, well… long over-due for a write up. I have finished reading about a week ago after deciding to go ahead and give my ebook copy a try; mainly because of a friend’s high praise and recommendation (Thank’s to you ChaEstra!). The reason I said it is long over-due because, I had countless times trying to construct and draft a review but I couldn’t come up with an idea on how to do it. I am hoping that I would be able to present what I truly feel and how I was intensively connected when reading it. I am afraid  that to write a review by only saying how I love it is an understatement specially on a book that is written in a  radically distinctive, highly unusual and one of it’s kind novel by David Levithan.

As I have said, the cover indeed says it all. It is a DICTIONARY and it is a NOVEL. Even with the recommendations and stuff, I dared not to check other reader’s feedbacks and reviews. Interested of how intriguing this book’s impression at my end, I seemed to be looking and wanting to surprise myself and it did.

The plot is a narration of a love story of the nameless narrator’s relationship to a lover whom he(was the narrator a HE?) met on an internet dating site. The narrator was a HE alright, because he mentioned of playing the role of “Kurt” in “The Sound of Music” stage play when was eight. As I was saying, this is a NOVEL that is telling a story in a manner that is cleverly presented using carefully chosen complicated and some unornamented, rare and common words. Beautiful words that most of us haven’t taken the time to speak anymore or not at all. The words are arranged in alphabetical order such as a dictionary, over which the definitions are incidents, moments, ideas, emotions, dialogues and reactions of both the narrator and his lover.

This is a love story that is full of intimacy and rawness. The writing is simple yet the concept is refreshing, excruciating and powerful. The ups and downs of their relationship are realistic. At some point, I was able to connect on certain passages and situations where personal experience just looked similar. I was entertained on how hilarious and humorous some chapters are. I read slowly and surely. Digesting each word entry and it’s description. I flipped back and re-read pages several times and truly connecting with the idea of it. I smiled, smirked, giggled and laughed as I went word for word and exhale romantic sighs at the fairly familiar lines that somehow hit me close to home. The words are arranged chronologically hence the timeline of the story jumps from one situation to another making the structure of the writing more exhilarating to which as a reader, it is making me constantly impatient with anticipation on the outcome of the story and excited on what the new chapter would bring. For a love story that started on an internet dating site, this novel is complete and applicably realistic.

For those who are confused and weighing the rocks of the relationship, this book will give you ideas. How to spot issues that are better dealt beforehand than later.

For those who are un-attached, this book is an inspiration.

For those who are in relationship of unconditional feeling of love and commitment like myself, this book is making me more and forever in-love and happy of what  I truly have now in my hands because I can never imagine a life of ME outside US.

This is a painful and sad story which is only thing I hate of this book. Everyone loves a happy ending may it be in real life, in a story or in movies and everyone deserves joy in life, who doesn’t?. In all fairness, David Levithan is a good writer. This is the first I read of his works and I’m glad it is this book.

Since this novel is a dictionary at the same time, I guess a review won’t be complete if I can’t come up with my top words listed as favorites. I actually have lots on the list but I chose the ones having a line or two, or a couple more as definitions. I will leave the rest to you, my dear readers to find out the rest.

Here goes:

misgivings, n

Last night, I got up the courage to ask you if you regretted us .

“There are things I miss” you said, “But, if I didn’t have you, I’d miss more”.

breathtaking, adj.

Those mornings when we kiss and surrender for an hour before we say a single word.

basis, n.

There has to be a moment at the beginning when you wonder whether you’re in love with the person or in love with the feeling of love itself.

If the moment doesn’t pass, that’s it—you’re done. And if the moment does pass, it never goes that far. It stands in the distance, ready for whenever you want it back. Sometimes it’s even there when you thought you were searching for something else, like an escape route, or your lover’s face.

Ineffable, adj.

These words will ultimately end up being the barest of reflections, devoid of the sensations words cannot convey. Trying to write about love is ultimately like trying to have a dictionary represent life. No matter how many words there are, there will never be enough.

reservation, n.

"There are many times when I worry that I’ve already lost myself. That is, that my self is so inseparable from being with you that if we were to separate, I would no longer be. I save this thought for when I feel the darkest discontent. I never meant to depend so much on someone else."

Happy Reading Everyone!! Smile
