Merry Monday– “Simple Ways to Make Your Day Better”

Unconsciously, we people hoped for our days to go as good as possible. We often hear the words “ It’s Monday, let us start the week right!”. Is there a procedure to follow in order to achieve a good week? Or even just a day?

Well, maybe this would help.

1. Wake up few minutes earlier than usual  My alarm this morning never get to make its annoying ringing. This is because I turned it off in a good 30-minutes before the time set.   That is right! I woke up early and surprisingly, I didn’t feel grumpy at all. I went to bed late the night before just like any ordinary night. In short, the usual morning scenario in our house, like rushing kids that were half awake for school and myself getting frustrated over them still wanting to grab few more blinks was replaced with a relaxed morning even if it was the critical prep hour of the day. Since I already have extra time in my hands, it made me start getting thru my routine extra early. It felt good and I realized that it isn’t so hard to have a good start to a full day.

2. HUG someone or spend a little time cuddling –  I turned closer to my daughter who was sleeping beside me. I put my arms around her and automatically she snuggled close. I am slowly waking her up by cuddling her and felt her hugging me back. It would have been nice if Husband dear is around because he always make cuddling a morning habit. As they say, hugging and cuddling gives the person an emotional lift. I spend time slightly tickling their toes or the sides of their neck that I knew would make them giggle. I woke the kids up in a very heart warming way instead of the usual forceful tugging and shaking and making them panic realizing they will be late for school.

3. First Things First – I took a moment to think about what needs to be done. Prioritizing task will help us get through the day and hopefully the whole week avoiding a stressful and unorganized activities. Having a long list of tasks to do can be overwhelming, so tackle any problems head-on at the start of the day to get them out of the way as early as possible. I finished house chores quick and dealt with my weekend laundry. From time to time I checked my emails and did a little Facebook browsing. Once must-dos are done, I can work with almost anything I can lay my hands on. Exhausting, but it seems I did more in a day.  I actually felt a sense of progress each time I finish a simple task. It helps too that I wrote things down. It is a good way to keep myself  from forgetting things and track what is accomplished. Being a stay-at-home mom is the hardest job. I may have all the time but its never enough.

4. Listen to Music – I am a music lover. I just don’t know if music even loved me! It has been awhile since I opened my playlist and get in tunes. I sing my heart out while doing chores and I silently pray that my neighbors will ignore me. They did. Nobody called the police and I had my mini concert. Why does music make us feel good? People love music for much the same reason they’re drawn to sex, drugs, gambling, delicious food or an awesome book. These things make people happy in one way or another. Listening to music can be a form of having a “ ME time”. One can get emotional, and physical because up beat songs are hard to resist to do a little bit of  shakin’ and pumpin’ and moving like Jagger! Its motivational and inspiring. Good or bad, and mostly good, listening to music never fails to make a day worth living.

There may be all sorts of ways to make your day better. A person just needs to figure it out and do it.  For all we know, an unexpected act or a single song can do miracles and take us a long way. Look around and take time to appreciate the colors of the surroundings. Follow a butterfly and you’ll never know how it can surprise you. Say a prayer of thanks each day for a day passed can never repeat its moment. Above all, have fun, smile and never take laughter for granted!

Be happy and have a Merry Monday!

DISRESPECTFUL?

The Red Carpet for Grammy’s is one of the highlights of the event that I most wanted to see, aside of course for the winners. I was actually planning to write a more detailed feedback about the ceremonies but I guess I will have to do that later. As for now, I can’t help but write something about this, as a totally attention-seeking, awareness-catching  post!

I absolutely find Nicki Minaj’s arriving at the red carpet with POPE-dressed-up-dude as insulting, disrespectful mockery. I actually didn’t come to notice Nicki Minaj, neither her music nor her style until the little kids started singing her songs. In fact, one of her cute, lovely, talented, sweet little fan’s video idolizing Nicki Minaj has become a hit on YouTube, discovered and featured by Ellen DeGeneres in her show.

I don’t care what others actually think, but Nicki Minaj’s red carpet walk and pose is a fail this time. I see it as COMPLETELY not a good influence for her young fans all over the world. She was already good with all the tutu skirts, colored wigs and girly fashion. Can she just stick to that and stay out of the whole catholic mockery and or disrespect?

I am sorry Nicki, you have just given me a reason to delete you from my playlist and music library albeit the fact that I have started to like your music and talent. The spot for admiration is vacant and is still there though, Please do clean the act!

Madonna’s SUPERBOWL Half-time Show

Unlike the previous years, I am not enthusiastic regarding this year’s NFL SUPERBOWL XLVI played between New York Giants and New England Patriots. Being a Pittsburgh Steeler fan and their early goodbye this season  just simply cut the level of excitement regarding the finals. However, half-time shows during SUPERBOWL is something I don’t want to miss.

MADONNA is a fantastic artist and performer. She might not be among my beloved favorites but with no doubt, I like her. I sang her songs when the radio plays it at times when it is rocking the hits. Everyone if not all sees her as in icon and named her as the Queen of Pop.

As soon as the buzz was out on who will be the half-time show performer, it has given everyone the verge of anxiety. For this performance, other artists like M.I.A., Nicki Minaj, LMFAO and Cee-Lo Green joined her. A more or less thirteen-minute show packed with medleys of her songs and some, which ended with a fully lighted ground that reads WORLD PEACE.

Did she able to give the world a peace of mind with her performance for the NFL SUPERBOWL XLVI?

Wanna’ have a second look of the half-time show? Check this out!

Madonna look marvelous and I guess she will always be. She added her new single “Give Me All Your Luvin” to the line up along with other classics like Vogue, Music and Like A Prayer. I find the whole act kinda incomplete. Don’t get me wrong, I love Madonna but I just didn’t see her in her usual 100% stage performance. The choreography was awesome, the projection was great but there’s something in there that left me hanging. Was it just me or some of you out there noticed it too? Was it a lip-sync?? ..Oh boy! For crying out loud.. I do hope it was not!

Well, How do you guys find the Queen of Pop- Madonna’s SUPERBOWL XLVI Half-Time Show? Wanna share points of view?

It’s also about a state of peace that comes with dreaming of the missed loved one(wiki).

5. “THE WAY YOU LOVE ME” by Faith HILL. It was the second single off her 1999 Breathe album, released as a single in 2000.

6. “214” by BAMBOO featuring the original RIVERMAYA. Released year 1994 in the Philippine tracks and praised for by it’s fresh , exciting and new pop/rock sound and was one of the best songs in their album. Still a favorite by many Pinoys up to this date. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find the official music video of the song.

7. “IRIS” by alternative rock band GOO GOO DOLLS. Released in April 1998 and recorded as OST for the movie City of Angels.

Christmas Holiday Ready?

I was in a cranky mood this past few days, someone dear to me says so. I admit I was and I guess I still am now. Reason? I am not exactly sure. Stress could be the one, someone dear to me says so again. As I woke up this morning, I was feeling blank and clueless. I even have to check my cellphone to find the date for today, 15th November it said. I got up from the bed against my will dragging myself like a zombie. I was quiet while doing my usual morning routines preparing and making my son get ready for school. Just as he was leaving, my daughter woke up.

“Is it still early?” she asked me in her still sleepy voice.

“For you, YES” I replied, her classes will start after lunch so I figure I can give her more time “You can still grab few more winks” I added.

“No, I have to wake up now” she answered me.

“Why rushing? Do you have something important to do?” I asked her.

“I have to wake up , that way it will get closer to night time and tomorrow will come and the day after tomorrow and so on” she tried to explain to me. I stared at her trying to figure out what she is up to. Sensing my thoughts, she explained further “ Ma, TV Patrol last night says its 41 days more before Christmas! That was last night so it makes it 40days today, See? that wasn’t so much to wait for right? It is soon , right?” she is fully awake now and the usual hyper HER is already making her usual hyper questions.

“Yes, it is soon…” I answered her.

“I’m excited” she said and she is giggling. “I have to memorize the song because my classmate said if I can’t sing Christmas carols , Christmas day won’t come fast” Once again I stared and at the same time smiling on her panic expression. I was thinking who the hell is giving this kids such reasons??!!

“Oh yeah?  You already know lots of Christmas carols you can start singing those right?” I suggested.

“But there is a song they keep singing… I have to sing it too” she is really getting worried. “it’s called Christmas in out hearts, I heard it the other day!”

Christmas In Our Hearts by Jose Mari Chan. I know the song and its one of my favorites. It brings back childhood memories celebrating Christmas with my cousins where we have to go house to house in our neighborhood singing Christmas carols. This song was released under Universal Records Year 1990 and became a hit.

I told my daughter that it is a very beautiful song and I can help her memorize it. I dig into my mom’s old collection of cartridge tapes and found Jose Mari Chan’s record.

I was glad that it played good with our current player. Listening to my daughter trying to memorize the lyrics made me realize who cares about who gave these kids the funny reasoning about Christmas not coming fast if one doesn’t sing Christmas carols? If she is preparing for the holidays by learning to sing Christmas carols, then so be it. Open-mouthed smile

Christmas in our Heart by Jose Mari Chan

I can see my daughter love the song as much as I did when I was little, and I am definitely loving it more now that I can sing it with my children.Smile

The Sparks Fly

Writing this post, I am wishing that Taylor Swift will be able to read this. For her to know that little girls can really give up other wishes they have in exchange to personally see her perform. what made me say this? Well……

Couple of months ago, I posted Swifted and Taylor’s Wardrobe Malfunction. I know that on these posts  I have written how my six-year old daughter Water love her and idolize her. It’s because of Taylor Swift that Water fell in love with songs. It’s because of Taylor Swift that she made me sign her up for piano lessons. She asked for Taylor Swift CDs instead of the usual Barbie stuff  when I asked her what she wanted me to bring for her when I was out of town. The reason why she wishes she had blond curly hair instead of the black hair we Filipinos have. The reason why she want me to get her cowboy boots because she would love to wear them and plans to wear it all the time(not too applicable for a little Pinay girl , you know!). Taylor Swift’s music videos on YouTube is the reason why she gets online on my laptop and also her reason of the endless whining and crying when she’s told to quit watching if her online-time limit is up. I myself, would admit that I have come to love Taylor Swift too.

Starting to hear Christmas carols in the air, Water realized that its less than 100 days before Christmas day. This morning, she begged me to let her get online. Thinking that exams were over and she has today and the whole weekend free from school work(except for piano lessons of course on weekend), I gave in and said YES. Excited, she rushed to type her perfectly memorize website and the next thing I know I am hearing Taylor Swift’s familiar song coming from my laptop speakers.

This  is the music video from YouTube that made her decide what she wants for Christmas.

Speak Now Tour Concert compilation

Sparks Fly video was playing when I hear her say:

“ Ma, I want to watch Taylor Swift LIVE on a concert”.

I glanced at her from the book I was reading and smiled, saying:

“ me too Water, who doesn’t?”

“Like this kind of concert” she said referring to that particular video.

“ Yeah” I acknowledged briefly.

“Ma, if I continue to have good grades will I be able to get a nice gift on Christmas?” she asked me again , her eyes never leaving the laptop screen.

“Of course!” I replied and added “ Everybody will get something on Christmas, some will get stuff they want and some will get the simple wish they heartily prayed for like good health and a decent  job maybe for the jobless”.

“Ok” she said while nodding, “I want to be able to watch Taylor Swift Live as a Christmas present,Ma”. I almost choked but I remained quiet and continued reading even though  I am already destructed and can’t understand what I am reading.

“In a concert like this! see?… look at that!, look at her!” she continued, “It’s okay if I am not going to receive any other gift ever!”

“What if you can’t?” I asked.

She just shrugged , looked at me and back to the videos.

SWIFTED. My made up term to describe my daughter’s admiration for a very successful and talented artist named Taylor Swift.

Totally impossible request to grant for this year and maybe next or more.Probably never…Never??.. as in never?!???.. I hope not. I wish to see her on a concert too. The tour she did in Manila last Feb.19,2011 was totally a wrong time for us. Budget wise and time wise.

Is there a full coverage DVD of her concert tours? I hope I can find one!

As a mother, sparks fly when you see your child smile. If YouTube videos of Taylor Swift makes water smile and glow, how much more will it make her happy on a LIVE concert. I know I will surely get swifted too. As I was watching the video, everyone seems head over heals swifted over Taylor Swift. Who’s not?? Right??!

Swifted

I got the idea to write this post when I saw a very dear friend of mine has added “SWIFT” to her name and coming up with a username TROLLY SWIFT.. ..cooool!  Sounds like d’ TAYLOR SWIFT . The one and only, 21-year old , Pennsylvania born, Nashville grown , country music , song writer, composer, music director, producer , multi-awarded artist, TAYLOR SWIFT. Well, I love Taylor Swift and Water adores her. So let’s get a bit SWIFTED.

I am inserting links of some of Taylor Swift’s performance videos  from Numba1Gama’s YouTube channel. To Numba1Gama, I sent you a PM on you YouTube channel asking your permission to pretty please allow me to  insert and share the links of your uploaded videos. Aside from The Official Taylor Swift 13 YouTube Channel , Numba1Gama’s videos are among the once I keep coming back on YouTube to watch and listen to. So, here it is…

http://youtu.be/1eXIHRYMJs0

http://youtu.be/BPnuQlIhrsw

http://youtu.be/vXDdZ4-gsH4

http://youtu.be/OOmGGjXSbcg

Ohkay, As much as I wanted to share and insert links of Taylor’s live performance videos but , I don’t want to be blocked (ugh!) again from my blog site because believe me, I may not be as techy and as informative as other bloggers are but this matters to me.

Don’t we just love Taylor Swift?!.. Hell Yeah! Are we not SWIFTED yet? Well, I am! FYI , the word SWIFTED is something I come up (probably others did too) that for me means you are amazingly wrapped up on Taylor Swift’s wholeness of being an artist. No matter what the mood her songs are , it is always represented with strong color, vibrant colors. The glitters and sparkles on her accessories, her BOOTS ,(yeah!?..wink))  her cute and striking guitars, her dresses and outfits of all sorts , could be long or short, modern or classical , daringly reserved or conservatively sexy will always emphasize the intensity of the feelings and thoughts of her songs. I do acknowledge  the critics comments about how sometimes she sounded bad and awful when she performs but can you see the UNLIKE button?.. neither do I!  For me among all other uber-talented individuals , hers is exceptional. The energy she executes in each performance is contagious. Her gorgeous blond curls and every hair-whipping-head-banging-rockin’ -booty-shakin’-dance-steps just makes you see the surprise element in her performances. Her signature hand-arms-raised-heart-formed-fingers , the guitar-throwing , and.. hey!, how about those rain shower effects on stage? Are you not SWIFTED yet??? ((sigh!))

What I would be looking forward to?…Is to be able to see her on a concert ,rocking the stage someday. What would I get to work on?.. Is to get a copy of all her albums, not just for my self but definitely for my daughter Water who is so Taylor Swift fanatic (look who’s talking).

This artist has become an idol and model to most of the young girls in this generation. Her songs are on each of this girls playlists (and secretly some of the men population too) and is listened  from their iPods and music players, requested on radio stations, ranks top on hit list worldwide. She has become an inspiration to some of those whose hearts  believe in love. The songs she wrote from her diary has brought smiles on lips of ordinary girls who in one way or another was able to relate to her emotions. Her concerts were watched by many coming from all walks of life, regardless of  status, age, race, may be a hot football player who is constantly described as the redneck heartbreak  who’s really bad in lying(from the lyrics of Picture to Burn)  in some of her songs or the cheer captain who wears hi-heels. May she continue to look up to bigger dreams of hers and always look before she fall(from the lyrics of Fifteen). More power to you Taylor !
