My Binondo Girl– the wrong impression

I love Kim Chiu. I like the show My Binondo Girl. I love the story and  I like the stars that plays the roles. It has been going on for several weeks now and I find myself hanging on to every episode. I got carried away in some of the scenes thus I have shed tears almost every night.

Tonight’s episode  which features the birthday party of Chen Sy made me come to thinking. On his birthday speech he elaborates that through out this fifty years of existence the only thing that made him sad is the death of his son Chen Sy-II, he also emphasizes that Time Heals All Wounds and is making the public know that he wishes to have the next fifty years to make up to his shortcomings to his other son Yuan Sy/Baby Yuan Dimaguiba. At this point , Jade Dimaguiba’s secret was revealed and apologies were expressed but Jade Dimaguiba was not given a chance to explain her side of story and the rejection of a father to a child scene took place.

Personally, I am starting to get annoyed and angry (like I said I got hooked with the drama and I got carried away). Do you think this series is giving the nation a family show with moral values? Or does it give the public the wrong impression. Philippines has a high number of babies born out of wedlock (like Jade Dimaguiba and baby brother Yuan) and one of the many reasons were the rejection of the man who fathered the child. Simplified as, the guy is not responsible enough, not man enough to face the consequences of his actions, turned his back and rejects the child with the lady he knocked up with. There are even legitimate children suffering from abandonment and rejection from their very own fathers. Painful. Traumatic and devastating to an innocent individual to suffer  any kind of rejection specially if the reason is their GENDER. I am starting to see this show as an invitation to the male population(specially to fil-chi community and even to those fil-chi wannabes) and is giving them ideas that it is alright to get a girl pregnant and turn their backs specially if they are expecting a baby girl because the culture believes it to be giving the family a bad luck. Instead of promoting values and responsibility, this show seems to be tolerating the chauvinistic arrogance of a male ego. It is making them feel that even if they abandon their child ,the fact would remain that they are still the father and the child will run after their attention. Complete bullsh*t of an idea to feed the young minds.

I would still watch the show, I just hope that they would mellow down Jade Dimaguiba’s desire to be with the father who don’t deserve a pure love from a child.

Moms and Magnolia Chicken

I actually saw this TV commercial first before the other one (Surrogate-Best Daddy is Mommy) which I wrote something about the other day. I was watching the prime time soaps and this came on during the break. I could give a standing ovation to the very person who come up with this advertising design. Lately, I am impressed with Magnolia’s recent advertisements. It is realistic, timely and most of all it made viewers like me relate to the commercial scene.

Curious?

Check this out!

Robot Scene:

I was teary eyed after seeing this for the first time. Why? Because this TV-ad was actually the scene at my house a couple of minutes before this came on our TV screen.  I was screaming and frustrated and telling my children to clean up their mess of toys that made the room looked like a typhoon had just went by. I can actually hear myself and its more like bitching! I rolled my eyes at my kids and sat in front of the TV screen to watch the prime time soaps trying to calm myself while my kids were cleaning up. What made it similar to the scene was my daughter handed me my glasses because she knew I needed it to watch TV. I was touched and kinda guilty for all the screaming I did on them. I told her to sit beside me and we will watch together. She smiled and told me she will be back as she needs to help her brother put all their toys away. As she turned going back to what she was doing was the time the commercial came on.

I know its not only me who got affected and who can relate with this TV-ad. I know that some mothers out there got teary-eyed like me watching this. Mothers as we are, we may be able to get really frustrated and bitchy but it doesn’t mean we don’t love our children, in fact we do ……a whole lot ! To non-mothers who can relate to the clip may have seen themselves when they were small. Little did we know someone out there have exactly have the same scene in their memory.

A mother’s love… can be express in both hateful and loving words. Whatever those words are, a mother’s love is always pure and indescribable!

an APPLE a day…

When I was young I always hear old folks say “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”. True to the words, an apple indeed is a good antioxidant and a good source of Vitamin C for body’s protection.

Over the years technology has improved and ruled the world. It gave the people options and choices how to live their lives. Among the remarkable impact of technology to the world if not considered the most was the rise of the APPLE Computer by Steven Jobs and friend Stephen Wozniak introducing to the people the possibility of a relationship to a personal computer. Thousands have seen their future  in different perspective. Their tandem has set the company to an innovation that change the technical world.

Steve Jobs, founder and former CEO of Apple Inc. told the world what we needed before we wanted it. He passed away last Wednesday, October 5, 2011 due to cancer leaving behind a legacy with his creative designs of the amazing iPod, iPhone, iPod Touch and now the iPad.

Today, Apple gadgets are part of the world’s everyday life…. at least to those who uses it. It won’t just be a simple “an APPLE a day….” but instead “the APPLE and me everyday…”.

I have an Apple iPod-Touch, the only Apple gadget I have. If not for my Blood Bank family in AFHSR, I don’t think I will be able to own one. DSC00735 My unending “thank you” for the gift will never be enough!  Undeniably, Apple gadget is as expensive as living up to the company’s sophistication. I miss  my Blood Bank family and this token will always remind me of you guys and of my precious years working with you. Like our friendship, this gadget will be treasured forever. As what Steve Jobs told the world “what we need before we wanted it” referring to the gadgets. On my part, it is the other way around,(Sorry Mr. Jobs Sad smile ) . I want an iPad, and an iPhone…. I am not desperately needing it for now but I do want it. You already left this world Mr.Jobs before I was able to get my own iPhone and iPad but nevertheless…. Thank You! Your legacy will live forever.

The Best Mommy is DADDY

I was reading a post from a fellow blogger and a friend Andy about how his daughter gave this special card during one of his regular visit to her school. I was smiling the whole time I was reading the post. It reminded me of the Philippines’ TV Commercial from Magnolia Chicken showing the dilemma of fathers dealing with daughters in the absence of the little girl’s mother. I realized that single parenting is not only a struggle and at the same time a fulfillment for mothers alone but for fathers as well. They say, it takes anyone to become pregnant but only a few can actually become MOTHERS and like women, it also take any male person to get a woman pregnant but only a few can actually become FATHERS. After reading Andy’s post, I am seeing faces of the men I knew who plays both roles of being a father and a mother at the same time. Acknowledgement to my dear cousins Binx Ceñal and Butchie Alegado who for years has been both mother and father at the same time to my lovely nieces Taj and Cake and nephew Choki. Today might not be father’s day but I salute you for continuing to do a very good job. I know what it feels like acting two parts and I want to let you know I am always here supporting you all the way.

To show you what I am talking about, here’s the commercial video clip:

Surrogate-Magnolia TV Ada(video from YouTube)
kid: di naman to sa akin pinapasuot ni mommy eh. (mommy didn’t dress me up with this, eh)
di ganyan ayusin ni mommy ang buhok ko. (mommy didn’t do my hair this way)

Dad: anak, miss ko rin naman si mommy eh. pero alam mo naman, kelangan niya magwork (baby, i also miss mommy. but you already know that she needs to work, right)
so tayong dalawa munang magkasama (so now, it’s just the two of us)
kid: di naman ito yung.. (this isn’t…)
and then she smiled, because she liked how her food was prepared, which i think is similar to her mom’s
kid: basta ikaw dad, di ka aalis ha? (dad, you’ll never leave me, ok?)
minsan ang the best na mommy, ay si daddy.
(sometimes, the best moms are our daddies)

To my cousins Bing and Butchie : You will always be the best Mommy for your children and I am so proud of you.

To Andy, thank you for sharing and giving me such a wonderful idea to honor the father-mommies! I wish you can understand the dialogue of the video but I did include a translation. I am happy for you Andy and you are such a good writer and father. Keep writing!

because I am a mother

I was constantly in a bad mood for like a couple of days already. Why? Because my kids are making me crazy. They are so difficult  to wake up in the morning and when they do they sit at the breakfast table staring at nothing even though you are ruining your vocal chords with all the screaming to hurry them up. When they get done eating they will fight as to who gets to shower first and when they are at the shower they spend so much of their time playing with the bubbles and suds the soap is making oblivious of the precious thing called TIME.

Everyday, when they leave for school, I will sit down and enjoy the first thirty minutes of my day alone and listen to its silence. When my thirty minutes or less is finished, I know I am ready to face the day and go on with my daily routine doing chores and stuff. Everyday seems to be a ground hog day.

I am trying my best to be the worry free and stress free stay-at-home mom. As much as possible, I avoid getting pissed and irritable with all the mess, the fighting, the tantrums and stuff because I don’t want to be a monster mom. I keep in mind that I will never fail to reward them with little things for their achievements and good behavior so they will be motivated. I will be firm on decisions but at times they end up hating me for the rest of the day…a day?..okay..an hour!(though they didn’t mean it seriously). When you tell them things that is correct and proper in contrast to what they want, they argue. When I show them they are making me upset and starts to really get mad, they will only stare and snickered. But, because I am a mother, I will breathe, close my eyes, count to ten and go own with the day.

When they get back from school, no matter how frustrated I am at them earlier in the morning, I would still run to meet them with open arms and big smile. I feel great the moment I see them running towards me with their back packs and lunch bags and when I feel their arms around my neck hugging me tight, I am relieved that they are home safe. I get excited hearing their stories on how their day went at school and as I feel them snuggle close to me with their sleepy eyes at night, it would always make me smile. I am their mother. I am their “person”.

This morning as they were on their way out for school, My son ran back and kissed me goodbye. The I heard him whisper, “see you later Ma!”. Watching his back as he walk away,  I told myself, no matter how they get me pissed, they are just kids and it’s their job to annoy their mother in any possible chance they can get and I will still end up rolling my eyes over their act of simply being kids. When I see them leaving my sight to go to school, I can’t help but wish that they don’t have to, because I want them where I can always come to them when they get hurt or help then understand lessons that they have difficulty understanding. Why? Because I do not want this period of time that will always look up to me for everything to end. Deep inside, I am scared that the more they become independent, the less they need me. I always thought that a romantic heartbreak is the most devastating heartache in the world but then I became a mother and I started to think otherwise, I don’t think the same the way I did before because now, I considered a child’s pain is the most devastating heartache a mother can ever have.

The Sparks Fly

Writing this post, I am wishing that Taylor Swift will be able to read this. For her to know that little girls can really give up other wishes they have in exchange to personally see her perform. what made me say this? Well……

Couple of months ago, I posted Swifted and Taylor’s Wardrobe Malfunction. I know that on these posts  I have written how my six-year old daughter Water love her and idolize her. It’s because of Taylor Swift that Water fell in love with songs. It’s because of Taylor Swift that she made me sign her up for piano lessons. She asked for Taylor Swift CDs instead of the usual Barbie stuff  when I asked her what she wanted me to bring for her when I was out of town. The reason why she wishes she had blond curly hair instead of the black hair we Filipinos have. The reason why she want me to get her cowboy boots because she would love to wear them and plans to wear it all the time(not too applicable for a little Pinay girl , you know!). Taylor Swift’s music videos on YouTube is the reason why she gets online on my laptop and also her reason of the endless whining and crying when she’s told to quit watching if her online-time limit is up. I myself, would admit that I have come to love Taylor Swift too.

Starting to hear Christmas carols in the air, Water realized that its less than 100 days before Christmas day. This morning, she begged me to let her get online. Thinking that exams were over and she has today and the whole weekend free from school work(except for piano lessons of course on weekend), I gave in and said YES. Excited, she rushed to type her perfectly memorize website and the next thing I know I am hearing Taylor Swift’s familiar song coming from my laptop speakers.

This  is the music video from YouTube that made her decide what she wants for Christmas.

Speak Now Tour Concert compilation

Sparks Fly video was playing when I hear her say:

“ Ma, I want to watch Taylor Swift LIVE on a concert”.

I glanced at her from the book I was reading and smiled, saying:

“ me too Water, who doesn’t?”

“Like this kind of concert” she said referring to that particular video.

“ Yeah” I acknowledged briefly.

“Ma, if I continue to have good grades will I be able to get a nice gift on Christmas?” she asked me again , her eyes never leaving the laptop screen.

“Of course!” I replied and added “ Everybody will get something on Christmas, some will get stuff they want and some will get the simple wish they heartily prayed for like good health and a decent  job maybe for the jobless”.

“Ok” she said while nodding, “I want to be able to watch Taylor Swift Live as a Christmas present,Ma”. I almost choked but I remained quiet and continued reading even though  I am already destructed and can’t understand what I am reading.

“In a concert like this! see?… look at that!, look at her!” she continued, “It’s okay if I am not going to receive any other gift ever!”

“What if you can’t?” I asked.

She just shrugged , looked at me and back to the videos.

SWIFTED. My made up term to describe my daughter’s admiration for a very successful and talented artist named Taylor Swift.

Totally impossible request to grant for this year and maybe next or more.Probably never…Never??.. as in never?!???.. I hope not. I wish to see her on a concert too. The tour she did in Manila last Feb.19,2011 was totally a wrong time for us. Budget wise and time wise.

Is there a full coverage DVD of her concert tours? I hope I can find one!

As a mother, sparks fly when you see your child smile. If YouTube videos of Taylor Swift makes water smile and glow, how much more will it make her happy on a LIVE concert. I know I will surely get swifted too. As I was watching the video, everyone seems head over heals swifted over Taylor Swift. Who’s not?? Right??!

My Binondo BOY

I got interested with ABS-CBN’s new TV series My Binondo Girl , first because Kim Chiu is on the lead act. I always have a heart for this particular “bisaya” actress. The comedy-family drama-romance format of the show is really entertaining. Big stars like Ai-ai Delas Alas , Cherry Pie Picache and the multi-awarded icon Gina Pareño are among the casts together with Kim Chiu’s three good looking leading men namely Jolo Revilla, Matteo Guidicelli and Xian Lim. So, who would not be entertained when you will be looking at these three guys’ pretty faces of the showbiz industry today. I guess that’s what it pays to be skinny like Kim Chiu huh? Lucky girl!

Kim Chiu with leading men Jolo Revilla , Xian Lim and Matteo Guidicelli

Now who do you think will be our Binondo Girl’s Binondo Boy?

I don’t mind whoever will be the best man for the lucky girl. Personally I would choose Onyx(Jolo Revilla), his childhood-best friend for life character is just lovely and cute.

The show has been on for a couple of weeks now and who would have thought I will find my first ever chinese looking crush. No other than, President Chen Sy himself , Richard Yap.

Filipino-Chinese  44-year old  commercial model from Cebu who speaks fluent Cebuano . One would have probably say he looks familiar as he has appeared  on the recent Chowking commercial as the chef, has now joined the Kapamilya Stars and plays the role of President Chen Sy on the show My Binondo Girl. Chen Sy is the father of Jade Dimaguiba(Kim Chiu), daughter of Zeny Dimaguiba(Ai-Ai) who happens to be Chen’ Sy’s first love when Zeny was still working in China years ago. Jade is Chen Sy’s unwanted daughter because according to Chinese culture having a daughter as first born is considered a bad luck. A steaming love triangle between Zeny, Chen and Jean Sy, the wife of Chen played by Cherry Pie who is also Zeny’s former best friend has added to the show’s ultimate“kilig” factor.

My Binondo Girl airs weekdays 8:30PM on ABS-CBN’s Prime Time Bida after 100 Days to Heaven.

May we ask for confirmation regarding the (alleged) statement that Ms. Winfrey gave to NBC News that Miss Philippines, based on her answer to the final question, should have won or deserved to win the 2011 Miss Universe title ‘hands down’ ? Thank you.

So , Ms. Winfrey did not make such statement alright. Now, does it really matter if she did?. I know I sounded like it does matter on my previous blog “Woman of Color.. Reigns!” .

Well then , erase ! erase ! erase !……..erase!

Like I have been emphasizing on my previous posts and  on my Facebook status and tweets during the competition and even hours after it that the judges’ decision on who will be crowned is the one that matters. What are they there for ? How we see the candidates on the screen might be different from the people who were invited to occupy the best seats in the house like no other than the panel of distinguished judges.

MISS ANGOLA is deserving to be crowned. To the sour-grapping haters- Get Over It! . To the supporters of Ms. Philippines Shamcey Supsup (myself included) let’s continue to celebrate. Making a spot on the finalist , 3rd place to be precise , is not so bad at all…. I repeat, NOT BAD AT ALL! It’s an honor and a great opportunity for all the candidates including to those who even didn’t make it to the top16. Let’s just all be happy and pleasured for this year a WOMAN of COLOR…… REIGNS!

Oprah Winfrey did not make a statement regarding Miss Universe 2011 results: (

)

Woman of Color…..reigns!

Ms. Angola Leila Lopes (full name: Leila Luliana da Costa Vieira Lopes) crowned Miss Universe 2011 at Sao Paulo Brazil. Born on Feb.26,1986.  She is Angola’s first Miss Universe title holder.

On an interview , Miss Angola , now Miss Universe said that by winning the crown , she hopes  her victory will allow her to assist her native Angola to further escape its history of war and impoverishment and said too that she plans to focus on combatting HIV around the globe. Ms. Universe believe that she will be able to do more than what she already did .

During the Q and A portion on the pageant she answered Judge Miss Lea Salonga’s question about having to change a thing in her  by saying that she is happy and contented of what she already has (according to the English translation of the interpreter). During one of the post coronation interviews, when asked about racism in view of the fact that she is one among the very few who was crowned Miss Universe, Leila Lopes stated that “every racist needs to seek help. It’s not normal in the 21st century to think in that way” . With this kind of attitude and personality, one can tell she will be successful in  fulfilling the Miss Universe 2011 duties.

Celebrating the success of a woman in color reigns with a diamond crown , How would the world react to a woman of color icon Oprah Winfrey said via NBC News:

“I have reservations with the results. If the only basis is the Q and A portion, after having been trimmed down to 5, Ms. Philippines deserved to win. What made her different from the rest is that she had no seconds to rethink of her answer as she had no interpreter to break the ice. The rest had their interpreters and having breaks on seconds to think about their answers. Hands down, Ms. Philippines answered straight to the point.”

Well, like most of us Oprah Winfrey was not among the panel of judges whose duties for the night is to pick among the 89 beautiful ladies as to who will take home the crown , and according to the judges… “ the winner is… Miss Angola!”

I would like to emphasize that , I am satisfied with the results. She is 2011 Miss Universe and no one can top that. She will be a good model and inspiration to everyone. Once again , Congratulations Miss Angola and Good luck to your quest as Miss Universe 2011.
