This could mean the other way around but I like it this way. I always go for GIRL POWER!
Every feminist would definitely agree to this. Knowing how male ego runs though, they would see this the other way around:
one can never be a FEMALE without a MALE
one will never become a MRS without a MR
one can never be a SHE without HE
and a WOMAN can never be without a MAN.
Then would come along the debate on who can’t live without who. Whatever way the individual sees it is what counts I guess. Bottom line is, man and woman are equal. Gone were the days of male chivalry and superiority. I don’t disregard though the fact that in a household, a man is considered the head of the family, but then again, I find this ironic when the woman in the family is the bread winner , right? Man and woman…. they are for each other, period.
“Sure God created man before woman, but then again you always make a rough draft before creating the final masterpiece.”

I hopped in the bus with my boy and went to the city to “kinda” prep my kids’ Halloween costumes. The past week has been so busy for me that I wasn’t able to think about Halloween despite all the preparations that everybody has been doing. Little did I know, that I would end up shopping for BOOKS and not for costumes. Whenever I shop, even simple grocery shopping, as long as the kids are with we , we always end up having an argument of stuff they want that I won’t buy. I can’t say NO when my son pointed at the books. Somehow, this is one of the things we both agree on. Surprisingly, today went well. There were no arguments and he behaved like an angel. I made a quick mental note that for me to have a peaceful shopping next time, I have to get them books or maybe encourage them to bring their own reading material.
All four books are hard-bound and even if they were heavy to carry around to do the rest of my agenda for the day, I am still thankful as it helped me become less of a monster mom as how my kids thought every time I will tell them they can’t have what they all wanted inside a shopping mall. Aside from the fact that these books were on sale, I know my kids will enjoy these just like they always do with the books I got for them in the past.
Reading is Fundamental
Reading is Learning
Reading is a passion
Happy reading my dear babies! Mama loves you much!
P.S.
I bought three books for myself too . So, just imagine that if the bus had a weight limit for luggage, I would have to pay for the excess!
I know a lot of moms like me struggles on how to make kids behave. This post is making sense.. it might just work. I will be sharing this to all the moms out there!
I have been following a fellow blogger’s site for a bit while now. This Is My Soapbox(thisismysoapbox.wordpress.com). I love reading posts of her unwarranted opinion about the world around us. I came across her blog about The Perfect Vagina. I was smiling as I was reading the tittle, and asking myself “is there an imperfect one?…” , I mean seriously, the human body is God’s creation, the technology might have let human’s knowledge improvised a hell of a lot on a human body but still…..you know what I mean!
So let me share this hour-long documentary video and let me see what you think!

The Perfect Vagina
So ladies?… How do you find your own fanny?
When I first become a medtech intern, I was assigned in a public hospital. Trainees as we are, the laboratory staff would ask us to do the sample collection from the wards. We carry with us our warding kit/tray that contains all the paraphernalia we needed for sample collection, i.e. BLOOD EXTRACTION. It was my very first time to actually see frontal view of a female genitalia inside the labor room and the delivery room of the hospital. Since it is a public hospital, there were about 9 women in waiting. They were admitted on different OB/Gyne cases. If I can remember correctly, 4 of them were for normal delivery, 2 were scheduled for CS section, 1 for D&C procedure from a miscarriage and 2 were for something I can’t recall. Five of these women were already on the IE(internal examination) table, complete with their legs spread open and on the stirrups exposing their well shaven V as a prep for all their medical procedures. I went inside the delivery room after I scrubbed my hands clean and put on the gown. I stood by the door facing the women’s leg-spread bodies, each with a nurses on watch monitoring them. I called the names of the request forms in my hand to identify the patients and as I did I can’t help but looked at those exposed Vs. Boy they looked ugly! Ha!Ha! Each one looked different is what I said, but then again, with the present conditions of these women, the size and shape of the Vs matter.
The documentary video tackles issues as to how different women deal with all the reasons to go under the knife. The more we become civilized, the more we become vain and conscious. Who’s opinion are we going to consider? Our own? Our partners? May it be husbands, boyfriend, friends with benefits, booty-call partners, flings, friends, family???
As long as the V is healthy, and serves its purpose , and one is happy with it, I don’t think there is a problem. Let’s embrace our own individuality, love our selves and let our contentment and satisfaction surprise us by giving us happiness and confidence.
I saw this posted on my friend, Jack Aguilar Ocampo’s FaceBook wall:
I salute you Mr. Romeo “Papa Meyok” Cantarona, forever I will be grateful to you and Auntie Flor for raising my children during my absence and treating them as your own. You have provided them the picture of a family with my dear cousins Gerald and Jessamae, not only by taking them in your humble home but also by showering them with love.
My dear husband , Wilmer Woods….no words can ever express how my kids and I are so lucky. For giving us all you have and for sharing your life with us as your family. For showing me that it doesn’t take blood line to become a family, neither race or nationality. For all your love, and all the love I can give in return. All my life…..
A new collectors edition Barbie doll has tattoos. Her name is Tokidoki and she has short pink hair and tattoos all over her body.
Parents are not on board with this.
Says one mom, “I don’t think it’s appropriate for little girls to be having Barbies with tattoos all over." Another says, “I think it sends all the wrong signals for young girls." Doesn't anyone see the absurdity here?
I thought I was the only one who has concerns about Barbie's image. I like Barbie dolls but not to the extent that I adore her... once in my life when I was young, I did have fun with Barbie. The way new barbie dolls are dressed just seems to become a factor with peer pressure to our little girls.
When I was little, I always recall Mama will give us a piece of Goldilock’s Classic Polvoron as a treat and a surprise whenever she travels to Manila. Goldilocks was only available in Manila not until some 15 years ago that they opened a branch in Davao and eventually in Tagum City not long after.
I am stressing out big time lately. I don’t know why because there’s never a pressure for someone who is a full time stay-at-home mother or so I thought! It could be the kids’ exams today and tomorrow that is causing the stress or so I tried to convince myself blaming the exams. Besides, who won’t be pressured when being a full time mother doesn’t allow me to sign out or logged off. I don’t have a “PAUSE” button to click that’s why the game is continuously playing. I can’t have a day off , a leave of absence, nor a vacation. When payday comes…. I don’t even have a salary voucher to sign. So… I am stressing alright.
Yesterday, after picking up Wine from his tutorial, we dropped by at the mall to get some stuff and some ready made snacks to take to school the next day. Goldilock’s bakeshop is among my favorite source. Rushing, so as to make it home before dinner time, I went in and grabbed a loaf of sandwich bread, couple of brownie slices(kids’ favorites….and mine too!) and head my way to the counter to pay. A lady was standing ahead of me and paying her purchases… I looked around and saw a package of the original Classic Polvoron. I stared at it for a moment from where I was standing. I was telling myself that it is against my so-called weight loss plan(as if there is any!), so I turned my back from it and paid attention to the cashier as she punched my purchases on the register. She told me the amount I need to pay and said “Would there be anything else you would like to add ma’am?”, I told her I’ve got all I need and handed her my cash, but just before she punched the cash received I left the counter, reached for the Classic Polvoron pack of 12s and asked her to add it on the second thought.
It’s been 14 hours since I bought the pack and I consumed every single piece of it. Damn! I am actually pigging out huh! Blame it on the nerves… I am stressed so I am entitled to take advantage of having my guilty pleasure for the week.
Its Funny and entertaining. It’s definitely suited to become a chick-flick. When one wishes to relax, this book will do the part for you. When I bought the book , I told my self I have to read it first before I will watch the film which was currently showing that week…. well, aside from the film showing was long over for a week now in cinemas, I don’t think I will watch it anymore.. but then again, I would still love to see the film if it’s on HBO, or Cinemax or FOX movies one of these days. One thing tho.. it will help women realize that a man can definitely be good in bed but totally suck in dealing with reality in life. It is true that when it comes to matters of the heart , numbers will tell only fraction of the story.
A good food will become fabulously magnificent when shared with good people. Once in a while I hang out with my mommy friends to unwind and relax. We take advantage of this time out from being around our children 24/7 to do a little “for the big girls only” session. This session usually includes dinner, coffee, dessert and a hell of chitchat of everything. We also maximize this time together to do a little planning and meetings of our ever dream vacation. We have a long list for that in fact, but so far we only got one pushed thru last summer, that is if you consider a day and an overnight stay at Emar’s wavepool as a vacation (which we don’t ever think of it as a vacay but a tanning session for the kids ha! ha!).
Hopefully, we will get to have another “vacay holiday” soon. Right Moms?
The CARROT CAKE is one of our well-loved dessert of choice among other favorite cakes.
During one of our sessions in one of our favorite restocoffee shop months ago, the carrot cake gave us the reason to left it barely tasted.
Julz’ unhappy expression trying it can already tell you what it taste like. Quel and Lou didn’t even bother noticing it around. By the way, why does one have to add strawberry jelly to a carrot cake’s frosting??????
Since it didn’t pass the standards of our Best in Cooking member of the gang, she used it as pictorial props instead. Lesson Learned: Do Not Order Carrot Cake from this particular resto. But, we love the food and ambiance of this place that we did came back to dine a couple of weeks after that.
We had good food as usual and a good dessert as expected sans the carrot cake. Witt and I were afraid to spoil our appetite that we wait for Ms.Best in Cooking to taste it first before we get to give ourselves the treats.
Last weekend my mommy friends decided to have our session for this month and this time we ate at a place called RK Chinese Garden and Sea Food Restaurant for the first time, which I will write about it some time soon. Unexpectedly we had a blast!
What you see is what you get. The food was great, the price is right. If I were to describe it in a way Kris Aquino would, I’ll say “ SULIT!…..it is like we’re getting more than what we paid for!”
We wanted to make most our little time that we decided to get our coffee and dessert from another favorite coffee shop Firenzo and here comes the cake parade.
This time we were satisfied. Everything just taste sinfully good as it looks. What caught out attention though was the CARROT CAKE.
We can’t resist while we were looking at it inside the cake display fridge making our order. We can hear the tiny orange carrot topping calling us and the white frosting is so inviting. So, how do we rate the carrot cake this time?
Well, you will realize that for a carrot cake to be ultra yummy when what you see above will happen to the tiny orange carrot topping.
I started joining fun runs early this year. I’m not a pro in running but I enjoy doing it. A very dear friend of mine Reverie Llanes-Aniñon told me to get this book about running which she and her hubby has been reading. Rev,has been my long-distant-walking-book-review-adviser. She is 10x more of a book worm as I am. I recall college days when we spent out mall hours digging books on any book sale we can find or killing time browsing the books trying to get free-reads on book shops. She told me the book was truly inspiring and she will share thoughts with me about it once I’m done reading it. I promised her I will get the book as soon as I can and true to my words, I purchased one:
BORN TO RUN
A Hidden Tribe , Superathletes and the Greatest Race the World has Never Seen
by Christopher McDougall
Category: Sports;Memoirs
Published by: Vintage Books a division of Random House ,Inc
New York
First Vintage Books Edition,March 2011
I walked inside the bookstore, normally, I will stop at the first shelf of books and work my way to the last shelf browsing and reading back covers. This time, I knew what I wanted and I went straight to the bookstore associate. I asked if they have available copy of BORN to RUN by Christopher McDougall and the lady told me there’s two left. As soon as she handed me a copy I smiled, held it in my hands like a priced possession and went straight to the counter to pay for it. Normally once again, I will never walk to the counter to pay for a book not until I have my arms loaded with books that I want and has to stare at them for almost an hour before I will decide which one I would take home and the ones I need to come back for.
Since it was getting late, I haul my self to a bus before the rush hour. Sitting at the bus, I tore open the package and signed my name on the first page with a date. I always do this on all my books so I can remember when I got them. I wasted no time flipping the pages and started reading.
Running. Why do humans run? Do they have to? Why does animals do the same? Do they really have to? Christopher McDougall’s story, a.k.a “El Oso”(the bear) is not just incredible. It will not only engage our mind but inspire our body the moment we realize that you, in fact all of us were BORN to RUN. As humans, we are designed to have two lower extremities not only for the sake of posture or form. These extremities we called legs and feet are designed to walk, swim, jump, leap gallop…. RUN.
As I was reading each and every page , chapter by chapter I had lots of realizations on why we are all born to run. *"We run when we’re scared, we run when we’re ecstatic, we ran away from our problems and run around for a good time, and when things look worst we run the most*” The book featured not only the world’s champions and ultra runners but the most distinguished experts and researchers, the respected sports medical specialist as well as the giant sports shoe companies that up to this date are still working hard to find solutions and remedies on how to avoid fatal running injuries which basically pushed El Oso to this epic adventure that began with his one simple question: Why does my foot hurt? Aside from these known personalities in the running industry, this adventure lead them to the hidden tribe of super athletes isolated by Mexico’s deadly Copper Canyons, the fascinating Tarahumara Indians who have the ability to run hundreds of miles without rest or injury. They are The Running People sans expensive designer running shoes, sans training, sans stretching and warm-ups prior to race, sans power bars and energy drinks.
What made me love this book?
With this book, I realized I made the right choice purchasing barefoot minimalist shoes.Ha! Ha!… It’s pretty obvious I love this weird-looking toe-shoes called Vibram Five Fingers as I have mentioned in my previous blog. Naturally, a human don’t need shoes to run good. According to Barefoot Ted“*our feet follows the concept of bricolage—that less is more, the best solution is the most elegant. Why add something when you are born with everything you need*” I have been using it for months, I got myself two pairs and I seldom suffer from leg cramps lately. I guess it is working good for me.
On one of my recent blog To Do List, losing weight and working out is my To Do list that I can’t seem to finish off. Hopefully, as inspired as I am with this book, I will be able to mark it done by RUNNING. “* If you’re tougher than you think you are, and you can do more than you think you can*”. So, there is nothing impossible. I will run and I can be good if I want to. “*You don’t’ have to be fast, you’d better be fearless*” . I’m fearless enough alright. I know I am. Slowly but surely. I don’t have to go speeding off right away. I am walking now as much as I can and so is my friend Rev. According to the phantom Caballo Blanco’s lessons on running, just think of these four words EASY, LIGHT, SMOOTH and FAST. “* start with EASY, if that’s what you get, that’s not so bad. Make it LIGHT- effortless, don’t give a sh*t on how high the hill is or how far you will go. SMOOTH- smooth enough your embracing running that you forgot you’re practicing the first two words. FAST- get those first three and one will be FAST in no time*” Four words to remember and master. That would be easy. For us who are now inspired that we can be ultra runners (wishful thinking ), to truly conquer something is to truly love it. Way to go Rev! Who knows?, We will be cruising with the Raramuri someday!
As I closed the book , few of El Oso’s words remain to linger on my mind. “Nothing works out according to plan but it always work out” Well then, I may still won’t be able to mark running as done on my To Do list soon but definitely, I will be running.
“* When you run on the earth and you run with the earth, you can run forever!”
