Last week , I was able to watch the latest episode of the TV series The Swamp People while hanging out at the hotel room waiting for the heavy rains to pass. Thinking to myself , “I’ll never have this kind of job!” . Interesting as it looks like , I know the danger with the package deal is just not worth it for me. I saw them struggle to catch giant reptile even with the suitable weapons used.
Two days ago , the national news of every TV network in the Philippines or even BBC World has been talking about the largest crocodile in the world found to date at Bunawan Agusan del Sur in the Southern parts of the Philippines.
According to the news , the authorities has planned to set a trap to catch the croc following the numerous reports of attacks on humans and even livestock and farm animals of the local residents. Aside from the unresolved attacks on humans as well from previous years. With the aid of the AFP and 30 some local residents the said problem crocodile was captured night of Sept. 4, 2011 .
According to the Wildlife Conservation Authorities , this 21 foot and a thousand plus kilogram salt-water crocodile as they have identified might not be the biggest hanging around the area . Some other crocodiles are seen and reported in places close by.
Endangered species are supposed to be in the wild , preserved and left alone to be in their natural habitat. But, this crocodile will be taken out from the wildlife and will be use for eco-tourism purposes as the news have reported.
If there is one bigger than this out there, how big is bigger are we talking about? Where are all the experts like the Swamp People with all their gadgets and weapons to capture reptiles such as the one in the photos above? Watching the only episode I’ve have seen for the series, I often heard the cast of Swamp People on the series always say “ No guts, No GATOR!”. Well, the locals of the municipality of Bunawan , Agusan del Sur surely have gathered all the guts they have and won themselves the largest gator to date ever found alive. It surely made the residents relieved but until when? I do hope lots of gutsy heroes to trap this kind of reptile will be over to start their hunt not unless they want to wait for another farm animal , or carefully raised livestock will become it’s meal before they will start another search ….or much worse , and I prayed , Oh please not another human being. No guts, No GATOR indeed!
